Multiplex cinema chain CGV will hold a special screening season of Korean Netflix movies as the industry resigns itself to the inevitable ascendancy of streaming platforms.
A total of seven films — “Space Sweepers,” “Time to Hunt,” “The Call,” “What Happened to Mr. Cha?,” “Night in Paradise,” “Sweet and Sour” and “The 8th Night” — will be screened in over 80 CGV cinemas nationwide from Sept. 1 to 12.
This is the very first time a Korean Netflix film is shown on the big screen. Many film companies turned to Netflix for releases in lockdown. But now people can enjoy some of them in movie theaters with a huge screen and richer sound after all.
CGV said, “This is a new business model that CGV and Netflix are collaborating on in times of a pandemic and increases the choice for the audience.”
Their relationship had been prickly so far as movie theaters fought their corner against the streaming upstarts.
